The position of a particle varies with time according to the equation y = - (2/3)t2 + 16 t + 12. How long does the particle take to come to rest ? ( All quantities are in MKS system

differenciating both sides respect to time

dy/dt=-(2/3)*2*t+16

or,v=-(4/3)t+16

for a body to come in rest v=0

or,0=-(4/3)t+16

or(4/3)t=16

or,t=12s

so it takes 12s to come in rest.
