Given:

Sequence 1,-1,1,-1

To Find:

The general term of the sequence.

Solution:

The sequence has the pattern,

 {( - 1)}^{n + 1}

a1 =  {( - 1)}^{1 + 1}  =  {( - 1)}^{2}

a2 =  {( - 1)}^{2 + 1}  =  {( - 1)}^{3}  =  - 1

a3 =  {( - 1)}^{3 + 1}  =  {( - 1)}^{4}  = 1

a4 =  {( - 1)}^{4 + 1}  =  {( - 1)}^{5}  =  - 1

The possible general term of the sequence 1,-1,1,-1 is an = (-1)^(n+1).
