Answer :

  • Area of Border is 72 cm²

Explanation :

  • Length of the Border = 2 cm
  • Length of Poster = 6 + 4 = 10 cm
  • Breadth of poster = 8 + 4 = 12 cm

We have to find the area of border. For calculating the area of border we need to find the area of complete poster and then we have to subtract the area of printed material from the area of poster :

Now,

Area of Complete Poster

  • Length = 10 cm
  • Breadth = 12 cm

⇒Area = length * Breadth

⇒ Area = 12*10

⇒Area = 120

➠ Area of the complete Poster is 120 cm²

\rule{200}{2}

Now,

Area of Printed Material

  • Length = 6 cm
  • Breadth = 8 cm

⇒ Area = 6*8

⇒ Area = 48

➠ Area of printed Material is 48 cm²

\rule{200}{2}

Area of Border

⇒ Area of border = Area of Poster - Area of Printed Material

⇒ Area of Border = 120 - 48

⇒ Area of Border = 72

➠ Area of Border is 72 cm²

In the above diagram, to find the area of the border, we have to subtract the area of the printed material from the complete area of the poster.

Complete area of the poster :

= l ⋅ w

Substitute 10 for l and 12 for w.

 \bf = 10 ⋅ 12

 \bf = 120 cm^2

Area of the poster is 120 square cm.

Area of the printed material :

= l ⋅ w

Substitute 6 for l and 8 for w.

 \bf = 6 ⋅ 8

 \bf = 48 cm^2

Area of the printed material is 48 square cm.

Area of the border :

= Area of the poster - Area of the printed material

 \bf = 120 - 48

 \bf = 72 cm^2
