Dear Friend:



I write to you in state of deep sadness over a mistake which I shall never be
able to rectify! Do you remember I had talked to you about a man named, Ali who
came to the post office with devotion in hope of receiving a letter from his
eloped daughter? That man is dead! I have a burden on my heart related to him.
I used to be a party to the jokes made about him by the postmasters. I never
tried to understand him. Once I behaved with him very rudely! But ever since my
own daughter's illness has tortured me, I have started feeling sorry for not
having understood Ali. I have been told he is dead. And see the irony! His
daughter has written a letter to him when he is no more! Do you know I saw his
spirit? Shall it ever haunt me? Please advise me as to how should I atone for
my mistake. Please do write at the earliest! May be your comforting words will
give solace to my troubled heart.
