Given:

Potential barrier for germanium = 0.3V

Width for depletion layer       = 1 micron

To Find:

Electric Field at the junction = ?

Solution:

Electric- field intensity: is the force that is experience by charge or pole in the presence of electric field.

Electric-field intensity expressed by-

E = \dfrac{V}{d}

V = Potential in volt

d = Distance in metre

V = 0.7 volts

d = 1 micron = 1 × 10^{-6} metre

E = \dfrac{0.7}{10^{-6} }

E   =  7 × 10^{5}  \frac{V}{m}

So field strength is  7 × 10^{5}  \frac{V}{m}
