I'm presuming that the unknown resistance is R.

Let point A is at a potential V(a)

and, let pot B is at a potential V(b).

Use Kirchhoff Voltage Law on the circuital line AB:

V(a) - 2R -3 -2(1) - V(b) = 0

V(a) - V(b) -5 -2R = 0

V(a) - V(b) = 5 + 2R

V(ab) = 5 + 2R

Hence, the potential difference b/w point A and B is V(ab) = 5 + 2R.
