the particles of sugar and salt are very very small in their size , they are rigid , they can't change their shape. when we mix them and put in a container, the mixture is solid only due to the minute particles they partially take up the shape of the container, but if we take them out and see, then they are not fluid, (which is the main property of liquids and gases) so this shows that they are solid.
