Given:

A pump which can store 1000 kg of water in a water tank at a height of 12 m in 10 minute.

To find:

Power of pump ?

Calculation:

  • Power is defined as the rate of doing work.

  • In this case, the work done is equal to the Potential Energy of the water at that height.

 \therefore \: Power =  \dfrac{W}{t}

 \implies \: Power =  \dfrac{mgh}{t}

 \implies \: Power =  \dfrac{1000 \times 10 \times 12 }{10 \times 60}

 \implies \: Power =  10 \times 10 \times 2

 \implies \: Power =  200 \: watt

So, power of pump is 200 watt.
