Hey,

Green parts of plants perform photosynthesis in the presence of light.

To demonstrate the above, following experiment is performed. A potted with Varigated leaves(With green and non green parts) is kept in sunlight for few hours. After that a leaf is collected from the plant and is boiled with alcohol and tested for presence of starch with Iodine solution. Only those parts of leaves respond positively which are green in colour.

NOTE
this can also be demonstrated by using a potted plant in which a part of the leaf is covered with black paper fixed by clips. The portion of leaves which was not covered by black paper turns blue with iodine solution indicating presence of starch.

HOPE THIS HELPS YOU.
