The presence of pollutant SO2 has caused damage to Taj Mahal.
The Taj Mahal is amongst of the seven wonders of the world. It is the most famous tourist attraction of India. Taj Mahal is getting discoloured because of air pollution. The Mathura oil refinery produce pollutants like Sulphur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide. These oxide react with water vapours to form harmful acids such as sulphurous acid & nitric acid. These acids mix with rain and fall down as acid rain . This acid rain corrodes the marble of the monuments. This rain is turning the colour of the white marble of Taj Mahal to yellow.
