Answer:

Let the present age of son be x

And that of father be y

According to the question

3x=y ----(1)

Also

5 years ago

y-5=5(x-5) ----(2)

Substitute the value of y from (1) in (2)

3x-5=5x-25

25-5=5x-3x

2x=20

x=10

y=3x

y=30

Present age of son is 10 years and that of father is 30 years

Say x=present age of father

y=present age of son

5 years ago both their ages will be x-5 and y-5

Hence, x-5= 5*(y-5) ……(1)

And, today, x=3y ……(2)

Solving equations simultaneously,

ie. Put x=3y in equation (1),

3y-5=5y-25

5y-3y=25–5

2y=20

y=10

Hence, from equation (2),

x=3y=3*10=30

Step-by-step explanation:

let the son be x.

fathers age be 5x

after 5 years,

son age is x+5

fathers age is 5x+5.

5x+5=3(x+5)

5x+5=3x+15

5x-3x=15-5

2x=10

x=10/2

x=5

son's age is 5

and father is 5×5=25
