Let the age of the son one year ago be x years.
Age of the father one year ago = 8x years.

Present age of the father = 8x+1
Present age of the son = x+1
we will get x=0 orx=6

so we will take the age 6+1=7

and father8x+1=49

Step-by-step explanation:

let present age of father be x

LET PRESENT AGE OF SON BE Y

ACCORDING TO THE QUESTION

X=Y^2

x-1=8(y-1)

x-1=8y-8

y^2-1=8y-8

y^2-8y+7=0

y^2-7y-y+7=0

y(y-7)-1(y-7)

(y-1)(y-7)

y=1,y=7

substitute y=7 in x=y^2

x=49

y=7
