Let the present ages be 2x and 5x

So their ages after 4 years will be 2x+4 and 5x+4 which is equal to 5 and 11

Equation = 2x+4 = 5

5x+4 = 11

Solve it : 11 (2x+4) = 5(5x+4)

22x+ 44 = 25x + 20

44-20 = 25x- 22x

24 = 3x

24/3 = x

x = 8

Therefore , their present ages are 2x = 16 years and 5x = 40 years

Hence , the father's age 5 years ago was 40- 5 years= 35 years
