The Present age of Atul's father is three times his present age. After 5 years, sum of their ages will be 70 years. Find their present age.​

Let, Present age of Atul be x years and his father be y years.

Given:-

Atul's father is thrice Atul's age.

⟹ y = 3x -- equation (1).

Also given that,

After 5 years , sum of their ages will be 70 years.

  • Atul's age after 5 years = (x + 5) years.
  • Atul's father's age after 5 years = (y + 5) years.

According to the above condition;

⟹ x + 5 + y + 5 = 70

Substitute the value of y from equation (1).

⟹ x + 3x = 70 - 5 - 5

⟹ 4x = 60

⟹ x = 60/4

⟹ x = 15 years

Substitute the value of x in equation (1).

⟹ y = 3x

⟹ y = 3(15)

⟹ y = 45 years.

  • Present age of Atul = 15 years.

  • Present age of Atul's father's age = 45 years.
