Answer :

  • Present age of son = 10 years
  • Present age of father = 33 years

Given :

  • The present age of a father is three years more than three times the age of son
  • Three years later , father's age will be 10 years more than the twice of the age of son

To find :

  • Present ages

Solution :

  • Let the present age of son be x

Given, the present age of a father is three years more than three times the age of son so,

  • Age of father be 3x + 3

After 3 years,

  • Age of son = x + 3
  • Age of father = 3x + 3 + 3

Age of son = x + 3 .... equation (1)

Age of father = 3x + 3 + 3 .... equation (2)

According to question, Given that, 3 years later , father's age will be 10 years more than the twice of the age of son so, using this method we get from equation (2) equal to 10 plus twice from equation (1) we get,

➞ 3x + 6 = 10 + 2(x + 3)

➞ 3x + 6 = 10 + 2x + 6

➞ 3x - 2x = 10 + 6 - 6

➞ x = 10

  • Present age of son is 10 years

Finding the present age of father's age

➞ 3x + 3

➞ 3(10) + 3

➞ 30 + 3

➞ 33

  • Present age of father is 33 years

Hence,

  • Present age of son = 10 years
  • Present age of father = 33 years
