Let the present age of husband be 4a

Present age of wife = 3a

According to question,

( 4a - 20) = 2(3a - 20)

=> 4a - 20 = 6a - 40

=> 6a - 4a = 40 - 20

=> 2a = 20

=> a = 10

Present age of husband = 40 years

Present age of wife = 30 years

Let the present age of the husband be 4x

And present age of wife be 3x

Now , according to the question !

4x - 20 = 2 (3x - 20) \\ \\ 4x -20 = 6x - 40 \\ \\ 4x - 6x = - 40 + 20 \\ \\ - 2x = - 20 \\ \\ x =\frac{20}{10} \\ \\ x = 10

Present age of husband = 4 ( 10 ) = 40 years

Present age of wife = 3 ( 10 ) = 30 years
