Step-by-step explanation: Let's take Madhu's present age to be x. Take Madhu's mother's age as y, y = 2x. After 6 years their ages will add up to 44 years- First add 6 to both Madhu's and Madhu's mother's age, that is- x + 6 and y + 6. Now the equation is x + 6 + y + 6= 44.

Simplified:

x + y + 12 = 44

x + y = 44 - 12

x + y = 32, Can also be written as:

x + 2x = 32

3x = 32,   32 divided by 3 is 10 (the remainder is 2)

Madhu's age x = 10 years

Therefore, Madhu's mother's age is: 3x,  x = 10, 3×10= 30

 However when we add both their ages the result is 40, not 44, I've    crosschecked my answer several times. This is because 32 isn't divisible by 3. So, there appears to be a mistake in the question. The above solution is the method to answer such types of questions, hope u find it helpful ☺
