Let x be the age of meena

then her mother's age will be 5x

5 years ago:

meenas age=(x-5)

her mother's age = (5x-x)

sum of their ages =(x-5) +(5x-5) =32

5x-5+x-5=32

5x-5-5+x=32

5x-10+x=32

6x-10=32

6x=32+10

6x=40

x=40/6

x=7

therefore meenas age is 7

since her mother's age is 5x

5×7=35

therefore her mother's age is 35

Given :

  • The present age of Meena’s mother is 5 times that of Meena’s age.
  • The sum of their ages 5 years ago was 32 .

To Find :

  • Present Age of Meena and her mother .

Solution :

\longmapsto\tt{Let\:the\:age\:of\:Meen\:be=x}

As Given that The present age of Meena’s mother is 5 times that of Meena’s age. So ,

\longmapsto\tt{Mother=5x}

Before 5 years :

\longmapsto\tt{Age\:of\:Meena=x-5}

\longmapsto\tt{Age\:of\:Mother=5x-5}

A.T.Q :

\longmapsto\tt{x-5+5x-5=32}

\longmapsto\tt{6x-10=32}

\longmapsto\tt{6x=32+10}

\longmapsto\tt{6x=42}

\longmapsto\tt{x=\cancel\dfrac{42}{6}}

\longmapsto\tt\bf{x=7}

Value of x is 7 .

Therefore :

\longmapsto\tt{Present\:Age\:of\:Meena=x}

\longmapsto\tt\bf{7\:yrs}

\longmapsto\tt{Present\:Age\:of\:Mother=5(7)}

\longmapsto\tt\bf{35\:yrs}
