The present age of monu is 1\5 times his mothers age. After 5 years his age will be 1\3times his mother's age of that time. find their present age.​

and his mother be y.

Given that present age of monu is 1\5 times his mother's age.

That is,

x = 1/5 * y

After 5 years monu's age becomes 1/3times of his mother's age now.

That is,

x + 5 = 1/3 * ( y + 5 )

Substituting the value of x in the above equation.

That is,

1/5*y + 5 = ( 1/3 ) * y + (5/3 )

Taking y terms to one side,

( 1/5 ) * y - ( 1/3 ) *y = ( 5/3 ) - 5

Taking y outside,

y ( 1/5 - 1/3 ) = 5 ( 1/3 - 1 )

y ( -2/15 ) = 5 * (-2/3 )

y = 5/3 * 15

y = 25

Present age of monu's mother is 25 years .

Substituting y = 25 in x = 1/5*y .

x = 1/5 * 25 = 5

Therefore present age of monu is 5 years.
