Step-by-step explanation:

Let Sahil's present age be x .

Let his mother's present age be 3x .

After 5 years,

Let Sahil's age be x+5.

Let his mother's age be 3x+5.

Now their sum of ages after 3 years = 66.            (GIVEN)

(x+5) + (3x+5) = 66

⇒ 4x + 10 =66

⇒4x = 56

⇒ x = 56/4

∴x = 14

Sahil's age = x = 14 years

Sahil's mother's age = 3x =  14×3 = 42 years
