let the mothers age be x years

sons age =x/2 years

10 years ago,

mother age=x-10 years

sons age=x/2-10 years

a/q

x-10=3(x/2-10)

x-10=3(x-20/2)

x-10=3x-60/2

2x-20=3x-60

-20+60=3x-2x

x=40 years

sons present age= 40/2 yea5

= 20 years
