The present age of virat is 2 years more than three times the present age of karun. Four years hence, virats age will be 10 years more than twice the age of the karun then. Find the present age of virat.

The present age of Virat is 14 years.

  • Let the present age of virat be x and present age of karan be y.
  • The present age of Virat is 2 years more than three times the present age of karan.

x = 3y + 2

x-3y = 2     (Equation 1)

  • Four years hence, virat's age will be 10 years more than twice the age of karun.

x+4 = 2y+10

x-2y = 6     (Equation 2)

  • Solving equation 1 and 2, we get

Subtracting equation 2 from 1,

-y = -4

y = 4

  • Karan's present age is 4 years.
  • Now substituting the value of y in equation 1, we get

x - 12 = 2

x =14

  • Present age of Virat is 14 years.
