Answer:

The father's age five years ago is  35 years

Step-by-step explanation:

The present ages of Amit and his father are in the ratio 2:5

Let teh ratio be x

Amit's present age = 2x

Father's present age = 5x

Amit's age after 4 years = 2x+4

Father's age after 4 years = 5x+4

Now we are given that the ratio of their ages becomes 5:11

So, \frac{2x+4}{5x+4}=\frac{5}{11}

11(2x+4)=5(5x+4)

22x+44=25x+20

24=3x

8=x

So, father's present age = 5x = 5(8)=40 years

So,  the father's age five years ago = 40-5 = 35 years

Hence the father's age five years ago is 35 years
