The Present day Haryana came under the control  of British rule in the year 1803.During the same year the present Delhi too came under the control of the British rule. During that time Delhi was under a very weak Mughal ruler Shah Alam. The grip of administration during that time was under Maratha ruler Daulat Rao Scindia who tried to make a peace treaty with the British.

It was not easy for the British to take over the control of Haryana under their control. There was a strong resist from the Jats,Bishnois, siks and Gujjar community people against the regime.

The British divided Hayana into two parts in 1805. The larger part were under local rulers who were faithful to the British and the smaller part they kept under their control. The larger part which was handed over to the local people or the local kings did not remain faithful to the British. As the people of Haryana were independent by nature and did not like interference by any external people ,they started to go against the British.

The Jats and the Ahirs were mostly against the British and revolted against them. So British took away their control from that area and ultimately the entire Haryana came under the British rule in the year 1809.

Many revolts they fought against the British like Jind revolt,Kaithal revolt,Rania Revolt which ultimately gave a way to the famous revolt of 1857.
