Let A's age be 1x and B's age be 3x

According to question, we have,

 \frac{1x + 6}{3x + 6}  =  \frac{2}{3}

=>3x+18=6x+12

=>-3x=-6

=>x=2

A's age =1×2=2

B's age =3×2=6

A+B =2+6=8 years

Given :-

The present ratio of ages of A&B was 1:3 and after six years are ratio becomes 2:3

To Find :-

The sum of present age of A&B.

Solution :-

Let the ratio be 1x and 3x.

After 6 years

Age of A = x + 6

Age of B = 3x + 6

Now,

x + 6/3x + 6 = 2/3

3(x + 6) = 2(3x + 6)

3x + 18 = 6x + 12

3x - 6x = 12 - 18

- 3x = -6

x = -6/-3

x = 2

Now

Age of A = x = 2 years

Age of B = 3x = 6 years

Sum of ages = 2 + 6 = 8
