In India the President is the Head of the nation. He has all the executive powers of the Union Government. All the executive actions are taken in his name. But he exercises power only in name as he is the nominal head or executive.
In reality, the Union Council of Ministers headed by the Prime Minister exercise the executive powers. As India has a Parliamentary form of government, the President rules the nation on the advice of the Prime Minister and his colleagues.
