The pressure of a gas contained in a cylinder with a movable piston is 300 Pa. The area of the piston is 0.5 m2. Calculate the force that is exerted on the piston.

Here movable piston in contact with pressurised gas in the cylinder ,does the compression work for which we have to consider contact area of piston which has to move against the gas pressure , therefore force of moving piston F ( Newton/m2 ) would be equal to : Area of piston 0.5 m2 x Pressure of gas 300 pascal( which is 300 newton/m2) = 150 newton
Pressure = Force / Area

Force = Pressure * Area

Force = 300 N/m^2 * 0.5 m^2 = 150 N
