Answer :

  • Cost of 1 pen is Rs. 5
  • Cost of 1 pencil is Rs. 2

Explanation :

Given :

  • Cost of 3 pencils and 4 pens = Rs. 26.

  • Cost of 6 pencil and 3 pens = Rs. 27.

To find :

  • Orignal price of pen and pencil.

Solution :

Let the price of pen be x and price of pencil be y.

According to the question,

  • Cost of 3 pencils (3x) and 4 pens (4y) is 26.i.e,

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀3x + 4y = 26 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Eq.(i)

  • Cost of 6 pencils (6x) and 3 pens (2y) is 26.i.e,
  • ⠀⠀⠀⠀6x + 3y = 27 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Eq.(ii)

From equation (i) , we get :

==> 3x + 4y = 26

==> 3x = 26 - 4y

==> x = (26 - 4y)/3

∴ x = (26 - 4y)/3

Now substituting the value of x in equation (ii) and by solving it , we get '

==> 6x + 2y = 27

==> 6[(26 - 4y)/3)] + 3y = 27

==> 2(26 - 4y) + 3y = 27

==> 52 - 8y + 3y = 27

==> 52 - 5y = 27

==> -5y = 27 - 52

==> -5y = -25

==> 5y = 25

==> y = 25/5

==> y = 5

∴ y = 5

Now by substituting the value of y in the equation of x , we get :

==> x = (26 - 4y)/3

==> x = (26 - 4 × 5)/3

==> x = (26 - 20)/3

==> x = 6/3

==> x = 2

∴ x = 2

Therefore,

  • Cost of 1 pen , y = Rs. 5
  • Cost of 1 pencil , x = Rs. 2

Step-by-step explanation:

Given :

  • The price of 3 pencil and 4 pens is 26 rs and 6 pencil and 3 pens its 27

To Find :

  • what is the price of each

Solution :

According to the Question :

  • The price of 3 pencil and 4 pens is 26 rs and 6 pencil and 3 pens its 27

3 pencils + 4 pens = 26

6 pencils + 3 pens = 27

Let the price of pen be y and that of pencil be x

now,

(3x + 4y = 26) × 3 .......1.

(6x + 3y = 27) × 4 ........2.

Subtracting 1 from 2

24x + 12y = 108

- 9x + 12y = 78

15x = 30

x = 30/15

x = 2

substituting this value in eq1.

3(2) + 4 y = 26

26 - 6 = 4y

20 = 4y

y = 20/4

= 5

Hence, price of pencil = 2 Rs

price of pen = 5Rs
