Let price of 1 pencil is Rs.P and 1 eraser is Rs.E .

so,

→ 6P + 7E = Rs.12 ----------- Eqn.(1)

→ 2P + 14E = Rs.18 -------- Eqn.(2)

Multiply Eqn.(2) by 3 and subtracting Eqn.(1) from result,

→ 3(2P + 14E) - (6P + 7E) = 3 * 18 - 12

→ 6P - 6P + 42E - 7E = 54 - 12

→ 35E = 42

→ E = (42/35) = Rs.(6/5)

putting value of E in Eqn.(2),

→ 2P + (14*6/5) = 18

→ 2P = 18 - (84/5)

→ 2P = (6/5)

→ P = Rs.(3/5)

hence,

→ 5P + 5E = 5(3/5) + 5(6/5) = 3 + 6 = Rs.9 (Ans.)

Let price of one pencil = Rs x and price of one eraser = Rs y

Condition : 1

So first condition gives

So second condition gives

Solve :

From Equation 3 we get

7y = 9 - x

$\implies \sf{7y = 8.4}$

$\implies \sf{y = 1.2}$

So price of one pencil is Rs 0.6 and price of one eraser is Rs 1.2

Hence the total price of 5 pencils and 5 erasers.

= Rs ( 5 × 0.6 ) + Rs ( 5× 1.2 )

= Rs 3 + Rs 6

= Rs 9
