Given,

The price of a book is 4 rupees more than the price of a pen.

The price of a pencil is 2 rupees less than the price of the pen.

The total price of 5 books,2 pens and 3 pencil is Rs.

To find,

Price of each items.

Solution,

We can simply solve this mathematical problem by using the following mathematical process.

Let, the price of a pen = Rs. x

So, price of the book = Rs. (x+4)

And, price of the pencil = Rs. (x-2)

Price of 5 books = 5×(x+4) = Rs. (5x+20)

Price of 2 pens = 2× x = Rs. 2x

Price of 3 pencils =3 × (x-2) = Rs. (3x-6)

According to the data mentioned in the question,

(5x+20)+2x+(3x-6)= 74

5x+2x+3x = 74-20+6

10x = 60

x = 60/10

x = 6

Price of a pen = Rs. 6

Price of a book = Rs. (6+4) = Rs. 10

Price of a pencil = Rs. (6-2) = Rs. 4

Hence, the price of a book is Rs. 10 , price of a pen is Rs. 6 and price of a pencil is Rs. 4
