Let it's basic price be ₹x. Then,

According to question,

x + 16 % of x = 16,820

=> x + 16/100 × x = 16,820

=> x + 4x/25 = 16,820

=> 25x + 4x/25 = 16,820

=> 29x/25 = 16,820

=> x = 16,820 × 25/29

=> x = 580

Hence, it's basic price is ₹580.

Dear,
According to question the price including vat is rs. 16820 and the VAT is 16%
So 16820 * 16/ 100 = 2691.2
Now price after VAT = price before VAT - price of VAT
price before vat= 16820 - 2691.2
= 14128.8 Rs.
