Given,
Ratio of price of a sedan car and a hatchback variant is 8:7
Price of Sedan is 40000 more than the hatchback.
Let the price of hatchback be x.
price of sedan car is( x+40000)
According to the question,
8:7=(x+40000) : x
Now ,value of x is 35000 .
Therefore, price of hatchback is 35000 .
Price of sedan car is (35000+40000)
=75000
Total expense =(75000+35000)
=110000

Concept:

Expense is the amount we spent on buying something.

Given:

The ratio of the price of a sedan car and a hatchback variant = 8:7,

And,

A sedan car costs 40000 more than a hatchback.

Find:

We are asked to find the total expense of both cars.

Solution:

We have,

The ratio of the price of a sedan car and a hatchback variant = 8:7,

And,

A sedan car costs 40000 more than a hatchback.

Now,

Let the price of Hatchback = y,

So,

the price of  sedan car = y + 40000

NOw,

According to the question,

The ratio of the price of a sedan car and a hatchback variant = 8:7,

i.e.

(y + 40000)/y = 8 7

On solving we get,

8y = 7 × (y + 40000)

i.e.

8y = 7y + 280000

On solving we get,

y = 280000

now,

The cost of sedan car = y + 40000 = 280000 + 40000 = 320000

So,

The total cost of both cars = 320000 + 280000 = 6,00,000

Hence, the total expense of buying both cars is 6,00,000.
