The price of a sugar decreased by 20% and then increased by 50% .by what percentage should a housewife now increase or decrease her consumption so that the expenditure on sugar remain same.

Let the price of sugar is 100/kg.

Decreased by 20% means 100-20/100x100 = 80

Again Increased by 50% means 100+50/100x80 = 120

So, initially it was 100/kg & now 120/kg. So, if we keep the expenditure on sugar same.

Means we can get amount of sugar in rupees 100 is 1/120x100 = 5/6kg = 0.833kg

So, she have to decrease the consumption by )1 - 0.833)kg =  0.166kg
