The price of the vase before increasing was £ 21.15  .

Explanation:

Let, the price of the vase before increasing be, 's'.

Increased rate = 4%

∴ Increased amount = (s×4/100)

                                 = s/25

∴ Present price = (s+s/25)

                         = (25s+s)/25 [∵ The L.C.M. of the denominators is 25.]

                         = 26s/25

According to the problem,

26s/25= 22

⇒ 26s = (22×25)

⇒s = (550/26)

⇒ s= £ 21.15

∴ The price of the vase was £ 21.25
