The price of an air-conditioner has increased by 5% this year. If now it costs Rs 17,640, what was its price a year ago?

let the price before increased = x

then., after increasement 5 %= 17640

now,

x + 5% of x = 17640

=> x+ 5/100 of x = 17640

=> x + 5x/100 = 17640

=> 100x/100 + 5x / 100= 17640

=> 105x / 100= 17640

=> 21x \ 20 = 17640

=> 21 x = 17640 multiply by 20 ( by

transposing)

=> x= 352800/ 21

=> x = 16800

Hence,

the price of an air conditioner before increment is 16800...
