Price of an article = 8250

Let Sales tax = y

Let List price = x

Then :

Sales tax = 10y/100 = y/10

Sales Price = y + (y/10) = 11y/10

=> 11y/10 = 8250

=> 11y = 82500

=> 7500

(i) Increases to 15%:

Sale price = 7500 * (115/100)

=> 8625

Increase = 8625 - 8250 = 375

(ii) Decrease to 6%:

Sale price = 7500 * (106/100)

=> 7950

Amount = 8250 - 7950 = 300

(iii) Increase by 2%

Sales tax = 12%

Sales price = 7500 * (112/100)

=> 8400

Amount = 8400 - 8250 = 150

(iv) Decrease by 3%

Sales tax = 7%

Sales price = 7500 * (107/100)

=> 8025

Thus, The customer have to pay less :

=> 8250 - 8025

=> 225

\huge{\text{\underline{Correct\:Question:-}}}

The price of an article is ₹8250 which includes tax at 10% . How much more or less does a customer pay for the article, if the tax on the article is:-

i) increases to 15%

ii) decrease to 6%

iii) increases by 2%

iv) decreases by 3%

\huge{\text{\underline{Solution:-}}}

Let sale price of article = ₹ y

Total price inclusive of sales tax = ₹ 8,250

Rate of sales tax = 10%

\implies8250 = y + 10% of y

Therefore:-

\impliesy = ₹ 7500

According to question:-

(i) New rate of sales tax = 15%

New total price

\implies₹ 7,500 + 15% of ₹7,500

\implies ₹ 7,500 + ₹ 1,125

\large{\boxed{\text{= Rs 8,625}}}

More money paid

\implies₹ 8,625 - ₹ 8,250

\large{\boxed{\text{= Rs 375}}}

(ii) New rate of sales tax = 6%

New total price

\implies₹ 7,500 + 6% of ₹ 7,500

\implies₹ 7,500 + ₹ 450

\large{\boxed{\text{= Rs 7,950}}}

Less money paid = ₹ 8,250 - ₹ 7,950

\large{\boxed{\text{= Rs 300}}}

(iii) New rate of sales tax

\implies(10 + 2)%

\implies12%

New total price

\implies ₹ 7,500 + 12% of ₹ 7,500

\implies₹ 7,500 + ₹ 900

\large{\boxed{\text{= Rs 8,400}}}

More money paid

\implies₹ 8,400 - ₹ 8,250

\large{\boxed{\text{= Rs 150}}}

(iv) New rate of sales tax

\implies(10 - 3)% = 7%

New total price

\implies₹ 7,500 + 7% of ₹ 7,500

\implies₹ 7,500 + ₹ 525

\large{\boxed{\text{= Rs 8,025}}}

Less money paid

\implies₹ 8,250 - ₹ 8,025

\large{\boxed{\text{= Rs 225}}}
