Summary of The Price Of Flowers
The price of flowers is a simple and interseting story written by Prabhath Kumar a famous Bengali Short story writer, it tells us about the poor life of the girl Maggie and her widowed mother Mrs. Clifford. They live in London . There were disturbed by the Thoughts of their Son Frank , a soldier posted in Punjab. The narrator of the story first meet Maggie in a Restaurant. He was very sympathetic towards Maggie and her mother.
The author visited the house of Maggie. They become good friends. Maggie worked as typist and her mother sold cakes on Saturday to earn their livelihood. The girl requested the narrator to gaze into the Maggie crystal ring and tell a lie to her mother , that her brother was alive well in India. The narrator did so. Later the narrator was ashamed to realise that Frank has died before the false prediction. He had made by gazing into the crystal ring. On the day of his departure to India Maggie met and gave him a shilling to buy flowers to be blazed in the grave of her brother. The author taught of returning the shilling , but on second thought he accepted the shilling believing that she would be very happy and it would be a great sacrifice that she could do for her brother..
