Given :- The price of a mobile increases by 16.66% in the 1st year of its launch. over the basic price decreases by 37.5% in the second year and then increases by 57.14% in 3rd year . After 3 years mobile's price is Rs. 1,65,000 then what was the basic price of mobile at the time of launch ?

Solution :-

Let us assume that, at the time of launch price of mobile was Rs x .

So, in first year price increased by 16.66% :-

16.66% = 1666/10000 = 833/5000

then,

→ Price after first year = x + (833/5000) of x = x * (5833/5000) = Rs.(5833x/5000)

now, in second year price was decreased by 37.5% :-

37.5% = 375/1000 = 3/8

then,

→ Price after second year = (5833x/5000) - {3/8) of (5833x/5000)} = Rs. {(5833x/5000) * (5/8)}

now, in third year price increases by 57.14% :-

57.14% = 5714/10000 = 4/7

then,

→ Price after third year = {(5833x/5000) * (5/8)} * (1 + 4/7) = {(5833x/5000) * (5/8)} * (11/7)

given that, price after 3 years was Rs. 1,65,000.

Therefore,

→ {(5833x/5000) * (5/8)} * (11/7) = 165000

→ (5833x * 5 * 11) / (5000 * 8 * 7) = 165000

→ 5833x * 55 = 165000 * 40000 * 7

dividing both sides by 55,

→ 5833x = 3000 * 280000

→ x = (3000 * 280000) / 5833

→ x ≈ Rs.144,008 . (Ans.)

Hence, the basic price of mobile at the time of launch was Rs.144,008 .
