Given:

The increase in sugar is 20%

To Find:

Reduction % of sugar consumption

Solution:

  • Let,the consumption of sugar be 1 unit.
  • Let, the cost of 1 unit sugar be ₹ 100.
  • New cost of 1 unit sugar will be ₹ 120.
  • Now, ₹120 yield will yield 1 unit of sugar
  • ∴ ₹100 will yield (\dfrac{1}{120}\times100)unit =\dfrac{5}{6} unit of sugar
  • Reduction in consumption :

    (1-\dfrac{5}{6})=\dfrac{1}{6}unit

  • ∴Reduction % in consumption:

    (\dfrac{1}{6}\times\dfrac{1}{1}\times100)%=\dfrac{50}{3}%%

     ⇒16\dfrac{2}{3}

  • ∴ Reduction% in consumption=16\dfrac{2}{3}
