In a sedimentary cycle elements move from land to water to sediment. Main reservoirs are the soil and sedimentary rocks.

Air then flows between high and low pressure areas of the earth, resulting in what is called the atmospheric cycle. This movement can be on a local or a global scale.

Differences between sedimentary and atmospheric cycle are as follows:

1. The reservoir pool in the atmospheric cycle is generally the hydrosphere or the atmosphere. Whereas, in the sedimentary cycle, we are able to find lithosphere mostly as the reservoir pool.

2. Atmospheric cycles are often considered to be as the perfect cycles. On the other hand, sedimentary cycles are considered or regarded as the imperfect type of cycle.

3. In the atmospheric cycle, we can find elements like carbon, oxygen, nitrogen and also water. But, in sedimentary cycles, earthbound elements such as iron, phosphorus and calcium are found.

4. The atmospheric cycle occurs very quick and takes less time. Whereas the sedimentary cycles are very slow and may require more time.

5. The biogenetic substance in the cycle of atmosphere is gaseous whereas in cycle of sedimentary, the biogenetic material is non-gaseous.
