The prime cost of an article was 3 times the value of materials used. The cost of raw materials increases in the ratio of 3:7 and productive wages 4:9. Find the present prime cost of an article which could formerly be made for rs. 18.

To find the present cost of an article that was made for Rs. 18.

Solution:

Let us consider

prime cost = raw material + 2 (wages)

Present Cost=18

Materials used is 3 times less then the prime cost of the article.

so, raw material = 18/3 =6

Hence,

wages = 18 - 6

wages =12.

Now lest use consider as per the question:

New raw material = 6×7/3 = 14  

New wages = 12×9/ 4= 27

Hence,

The New Prime cost of the article = 14 + 27 = 41
