the printed price of a calculator is Rs. 180. a retailer pays Rs. 137.7 for it by getting successive discounts of 10% and another rate which is illegible. what is the second discount rate?

Given that the discount is 10% the buying price will be :

90/100 × 180 = 162

But he buys it at 137.7

What discount rate is this :

162 - 137.7 = 24.3

The discount is therefore :

24.3/162 × 100 = 0.15 × 100

= 15%

The rate of discount is thus :

15%
