For finding the probability of getting a face card when a card is drawn at random form a pack of cards ; we need to know the following things :

  • Total cards in a pack
  • Total number of face cards
  • What are face cards
  • What are the other cards.

  • Total cards in a pack .

➜ There are a total of 52 cards in a pack.

  • Total number of face cards .

➜ There are 12 face cards.

  • What are face cards and what are other cards.

The system of cards is divided into two parts :

  1. Red
  2. Black

  • In Red there are further division in two groups :

  1. Red Hearts - ♥️ = Each Red Heart has 13 cards . 1 is called Ace . 2 ,3 ,4 , 5 , 6 , 7, 8 , 9 , 10 are called number cards . The remaining 3 cards are The Jack , The King , The Queen . These 3 cards are called picture cards.
  2. Red Diamonds - ♦️ = Each Red Diamond has 13 cards . 1 is called Ace . 2 ,3 ,4 , 5 , 6 , 7, 8 , 9 , 10 are called number cards . The remaining 3 cards are The Jack , The King , The Queen . These 3 cards are called picture cards.

  • In Black there are further Division in two groups :

  1. Spades - ♠️ = Each Black Spade has 13 cards . 1 is called Ace . 2 ,3 ,4 , 5 , 6 , 7, 8 , 9 , 10 are called number cards . The remaining 3 cards are The Jack , The King , The Queen . These 3 cards are called picture cards.
  2. Clubs - ♣️ = Each Black Club has 13 cards . 1 is called Ace . 2 ,3 ,4 , 5 , 6 , 7, 8 , 9 , 10 are called number cards . The remaining 3 cards are The Jack , The King , The Queen . These 3 cards are called picture cards.

With respect to above information ; we solve it as :

\large{\boxed{\sf{\gray{Probability = \dfrac{Favourable}{Total}}}}}

Putting up the values :

→P(E) = 12/52

(Each group has 3 face cards. There are 4 groups . 3×4= 12)

When simplified :

→ P(E) = 3/13

So the probability of getting a face card is 3/13.

♤ ♧ ♡ ♢ ᎯᏁᏕᏯᎬᏒ ♤ ♧ ♡ ♢

Number of cards in a pack = 52

Number of face cards = 12

\purple{..........................................}

4 king (Each from:- ♤ ♧ ♡ ♢) +

4 queen (Each from:- ♤ ♧ ♡ ♢) +

4 jack (Each from:- ♤ ♧ ♡ ♢)

= 12 face cards

 \boxed{ \rm Probability =  \frac{Favourable \: Outcomes}{Total \:Outcomes } }

⇢ \rm Probability =  \frac{12}{52}

⇢ \rm Probability =  \frac{3}{13}
