SOLUTION

TO DETERMINE

The probability of getting exactly 4 tails when 6 unbiased coins are tossed

EVALUATION

When 6 unbiased coins are tossed then the total number of possible outcomes

 =  {2}^{6}

 = 64

Let A be the event that of getting exactly 4 tails

Then the total number of possible outcomes for the event A is

 \sf{ =  {}^{6}C_4 }

 = 15

Hence the required probability

= P(A)

 \displaystyle \sf{ =  \frac{15}{64} }

Given :   getting exactly 4 tails when 6 unbiased coins are tossed

To Find  : Probability

Solution:

unbiased coin

P(T)   p = 1/2

P(H)   q  = 1 -  1/2  = 1/2

n = 6     6 unbiased coins

x = 4      exactly 4 tails

P(x) = ⁿCₓpˣqⁿ⁻ˣ

probability of getting exactly 4 tails when 6 unbiased coins are tossed

= P(4)

= ⁶C₄(1/2)⁴(1/2)⁶⁻⁴

= 15 (1/2)⁶

= 15/64

= 0.234375

probability of getting exactly 4 tails when 6 unbiased coins are tossed  = 15/64  or  0.234375
