The probability of selecting a green marble at random form a jar that contains only green, white and yellow marbles is 1/4. The probability of selecting a white marble at random form the same jar is 1/3. If this jar contains 10 yellow marbles. What is the total number of marbles in the jar?

G+Y+W=4G  or 3G= Y+ W this is equation one

W/(G+Y+W)=1/3

3W=G+Y+W or 2W= Y+G this is equation two

from equation one

3G= Y+W

We know that we have 10 yellow marbles

W=3G-10 equation three

Putting value of W in equation two

2(3G-10)=10+G , 6G-20=10+G

5G=30

G=6

Putting value of G in equation three

W= 8

hence, total marbles =6+8+10 =24
