let the number of rotten apples be x

total number of apples in the heap = 900 (given)

now we know

probability = number of favourable outcomes/total outcomes

0.18 = x/900

18/100 = x/900

x = 18 x 900 /100

x = 162

therefore

number of rotton apples = 162

total no. of apples in the heap=900
probability of selecting a rotten apple=0.18
let the no. of rotten apples be x

probability of selecting a rotten apple= no. of rotten apples/total apples
0.18=x/900
x=900*0.18
  =162
therefore total no. of rotten apples = 162    answer
