SOLUTION:
Given:

P(not Event)= 1/3
P(Event) + P (not an Event) = 1
x/12 + ⅓ =1
x/12 = 1 - ⅓
x/12 = (3 -1)/3
3x/12 = 2
3x = 2 × 12
3x = 24
x = 24/3
x = 8
