The procedure and explanation to separate copper powder from a mixture containing copper and zinc powders :
- So, for separate them we must know their individual properties .
- Therefore, based on the colour they can be separated as they have different colours i.e copper metal is red while zinc is grey in colour.
- Other method to separate them is by treating with acid .As the zinc have more reducing character and lies about the hydrogen in reactivity series so it will reduce the acid while copper do not react at all.
- Zn(s) + 2 HCl (aq.) –> ZnCl2(aq) + H2(g).
