Case-hardening is such a process, which forms an outer surface of the metal hard while keeping the inner core soft.
This is done by infusing carbon and nitrogen on the surface of the metal. One such type of case-hardening is Cyaniding.
In Cyaniding, the metal is heated at 871C - 954C temperature in a solution of sodium cyanide. This process can be completed in 15-20 minutes compared to hours this takes in other types of case-hardening.
