Hey mate..

Here is your answer

The process of diffusion occurs rapidly in gasses less rapidly in liquid and very slow in solids due to their arrangement of particles and kinetic energy. Gasses are far from each other and have more kinetic energy as compared to liquids and solids that's why diffusion occurs rapidly. While in liquids diffusion happen but not as fast as in gasses. In solids takes place very slowly because their particles are closely packed and they cannot move and have less kinetic energy.

Hope it's helpful for you ^-^

Have a good day ☺️

Answer:

Because the rate of diffusion is directly proportional to the kinetic energy of the molecules in the compound.

Explanation:

The process of diffusion is directly proportional to the kinetic energy of the molecules in the compound.

Comparing solids, liquids and gases,

  • Molecules of solid have the least kinetic energy
  • Molecules of liquid have kinetic energy between solids and gases.
  • Gases have the most kinetic energy.

How diffusion occurs in gases:

Since molecules of gases have a lot of kinetic energy, they move rapidly and collide with other gaseous molecules and thus diffusion occurs.

How diffusion occurs in liquids:

But in liquids surface tension arises and also the molecules have less kinetic energy so the rate of diffusion is less.

How diffusion occurs in solids:

In solids the rate of diffusion is zero tk none as the molecules possess kinetic energy close to zero and move very little in their place so diffusion generally does not occur in solids.
